In June, the D-SCAPE team held a workshop with OUCRU’s Health Research Advisory Board (HRAB) to explore a challenge that affects Vietnamese families: knowing the gaps within care seeking for dengue.
The session brought together the D-SCAPE team, OUCRU Public Engagement team, and HRAB members to discuss common barriers to timely dengue care-seeking, and to gather feedback on the practical value of an at-home vital-sign monitoring device.
It was a rich conversation grounded in lived experiences among those that have been impacted by dengue, and exactly the kind of input that keeps our work anchored to the reality of dengue in Vietnam.
A few themes stood out. HRAB highlighted that delayed care-seeking is a real barrier: many people don’t recognize dengue until symptoms are already advanced and often try home remedies before seeking medical help. From our conversation, we learned that D-SCAPE has the potential to support at-home health monitoring and outbreak detection at a community level, offering additional value beyond the clinical setting.
As we’re digesting these insights, we wanted to take a moment to recognize the effort that went into making the session happen and thank HRAB for their generosity in sharing their perspective and OUCRU Public Engagement Team for making this possible. We’re looking forward to integrating this perspective into D-SCAPE’s design and development.
